USA Kilts' Nordic Heritage tartan was created for anyone who wishes to celebrate their Nordic / Norse / Scandinavian roots, or anyone who is inspired by Nordic culture, history and legends.
This exclusive tartan represents the spirit of those peoples of the North who had such a powerful impact on the history and culture of the British Isles and North America. The colors represent the flags of the Nordic Council nations and territories (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, and Åland). They also represent essential aspects of Nordic culture and the dramatic climate of the far north:
Blue - the ocean and seas, the northern sky, woad-dyed wool, the Norse god Odin.
Red - Fire, passion, the warrior tradition of the Norse, and the god Thor.
Gold - Golden treasure and jewelry and amber; known to the Norse as “Freyja’s tears”.
White - Ice, snow, the caps of waves, silver, and the compass “Sunstones” of the Vikings.
Black and Grey - Winter night, the fjords of Norway, and the rocky shores of Iceland and Greenland.
Marled Grey yarn - Nordic farmers, such as the Icelanders, could not always acquire dyes for their cloth, so they created patterns by intermingling wool from black, gray and white sheep.
This tartan was designed by Rocky (aka William) Roeger, USA Kilts, 2023. The name "Nordic Heritage" and the tartan pattern itself are both ©2023 by William Roeger, USA Kilts. This tartan is ONLY available through USA Kilts and may not be reproduced anywhere without the expressed written consent of USA Kilts.
WHAT IS A MINI KILT?
The USA Kilts "Wool Mini Kilt" is usually worn lower on the hips and has between 10 and 18 pleats (approximately 1.5" - 2" wide). It is shorter than a man’s kilt with an average length of 16 inches from the 'jeans waist'. This kilt closes with Velcro on the inside left hip and 2 straps and buckles on the outside right hip.
NOTE: We would ask that you measure carefully for our kilts. Since these are custom made to fit the measurements provided, you will need to be sure of the exact sizing. We will not refund in the case of mistakes in measuring. Detailed measuring instructions can be found in the "Measuring Instructions" tab below this text and a video on how to measure can be found in the "Videos" tab directly below the main product picture.
Low Waist
Make sure to use a good sewing tape measure. If you don't have a sewing tape measure, you can use a leather belt to measure. Wrap it around you, mark it and then lay it flat on a metal tape measure to get the measurement.
Just relax and stand "at ease". When measuring, the tape measure should be snug – as snug as you will be wearing the kilt. Use that measurement for the waist.

Hips This measurement is taken around the very widest part of your rear end. This measurement should be taken a bit loosely.
|
||||
Thighs Standing with feet about 8" to 10" apart, measure around the widest area of your thighs. Measure both thighs together, not individually.
|

This is measured down the side of your body from the top of where the kilt will sit (i.e. top of your jeans) straight down to about 3" above the knee. 15" is an average length for a 5' 4" woman, wearing the kilt at her low waist). Any measurement shorter than this may be a bit "revealing" when you bend at the waist! As a reference point, here are some heights and mini kilt lengths:
