This tartan is affectionately named the "Leatherneck" tartan. The term "leatherneck" is a nickname for a US Marine and originated from the wide and stiff leather neck-piece that was part of the Marine Corps uniform from 1798 until 1872. It is also called the US Marine Corps Tartan.
Designed by Bob Hall of Tallahassee, USA and Ruraidh MacLeod of Auchtermuchty and a member of the Scottish Tartans Society. For the US Marine Corps which was founded on 10th November 1775 by an act of the Continental Congress.
This tartan dates to 1986.
