One documented claim states that this tartan was designed by David Thomas - one time director of the Strathmore Woollen Co. in Forfar. However, the clan claims it to be much older and another source has put a date of 1795 on it. Adopted by the Clan Society in 1975 and registered in Lord Lyon Court Book No 36. 27th June 1979. The oldest visual record of the sett is in fact a photograph in a newspaper cutting dated July 1954. Sample in STA Dalgety Collection.
