A note from Alison Stewart of the Scottish Tartans Information Centre in July 1964 said that this was first found in the lists of Johnston & Ross about 1930. It was suggested that the white and yellow lines were incorporated to mark the fact that the clan was a sept of Clan Campbell. D.C. Stewart suggested that this might have been the version worn by the Scottish tenor Kenneth MacKellar who was very popular in the 1960s and 70s.
