  • Notes:

This is a 1893 rendition of a much older tartan. James Scarlett explains that the original was a waistcoat given to Prince Charles Edward by MacDonald of Kingsbrugh. Too bright for his use BPC exchanged it with one Malcolm Macleod of Macleod who, before his capture by Government forces, hid it in a rock cleft. After his release a year later he retrieved it but only a small scrap had survived undamaged. It was eventually preserved in the Advocates' Library in Edinburgh. Sample in STA's Scarlett Collection.
