Peter MacDonald says (Oct. 2003) that the original Wilson's of Bannockburn Lochaber was so dark that the green and the blue were misread as black which explains this erroneous interpretatiion of the tartan. He also said that the STS had a sample and that he had verified the fact that the original conforms to the count in Wilsons' 1819 KPB. The original notes read: "This thread count is from James Scarlett's 'Tartan the Highland Textile' and is reputed to date from 1707. Tartans Society notes add: .Telfer Dunbar Collection. Lochaber is the home of Clan Cameron and a portion of the Clanranald MacDonalds. The former military Fort William is now the population centre of the district on the West coast of Scotland. This is one of several recorded old authentic patterns from the Lochaber district." Sample in STA's Collection.
