  • Notes: Looking into the Grand Canyon is looking back in time. Water and wind began shaping this land millions of years before man walked the earth. Now, standing on the south rim as the sun rises, the canyon walls glow a hundred shades of red… slowly changing as the sun climbs in the sky. It’s a place of deep reflection and contradictions. The openness can make you feel alone, yet gives you peace. You feel insignificant, yet at one with nature. There is a reason the Grand Canyon is among the greatest wonders of the world. When you stand there, quietly reflecting, with only the sound of the wind in your ears, you understand. You realize why this place is so spiritual to so many people. Deep feelings of reverence and admiration transcend age, culture and background. The canyon is primal, and it connects with us on a primal level, demanding our attention. You enter a state of calm and reflection because there is no easy way to grasp the totality of this place. What it means and how it came to be. And in surrendering to the magic of the Canyon, we have an opportunity to find ourselves. To renew ourselves. Our Grand Canyon Tartan pays homage to the beauty and the impact of this natural wonder. We chose colors that capture the radiant tones of the Canyon at sunrise. Hues of red, rust, tan and gold blended together, illustrate the rock strata that form the canyon walls. The water of the Colorado river that shaped the canyon is expressed by a delicate line of turquoise. The vegetation of the canyonlands, like Pinyon pine, Juniper and Manzanita are present in a small section of dusty green. The vast blue dome of the endless southwestern sky and the warm glow of the sun are present in azure, punctuated with a gold stripe. The allure of this vast, open, otherworldly place is the result of nature’s power and the persistence of time. With this tartan, we celebrate the overwhelming sense of awe and tranquility… and the splendor of the Grand Canyon. Legal: This tartan was designed by William (aka Rocky) Roeger, USA Kilts, 2024.
