  • Notes:

Thomson was a border clan most numerous in the region stretching from the West Marche to Edinburgh. Clan history is thus influenced by close proximity with England.

This fashion tartan seems to have been designed in the 1970's. It is often linked to noted American tartan expert, J.C. Thompson, author of 'So you're going to wear the kilt?'. He also co-authored 'Scotland's Forged Tartans' with the late D.C. Stewart, the father of modern tartan research. Another opinion holds that this was designed by Laird Portch.

From a distance, this tartan may be mistaken for the commercial Burberry coat tartan. However, while this Thomson Camel bears the red stripe in the same position as Burberry, the white stripes are much further apart and are separated by a white line.
