    Thought to be pre-1850. taken from a silk swatch in Patterson's pattern book. Source given as M Castro the handloom weaver. Now generally accepted as the District tartan rather than the newer alternative Roxburgh. Roxburgh is in the heart of the Borders region of Scotland.
